MIAMI — Sophomore center fielder Marque Luster had two doubles, a home run and 10 runs batted in to lead the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Golden Norsemen to a 19-2 and 11-0 sweep over the Oklahoma Wesleyan University junior varsity Monday, March 26 at Homa Thomas Field.

While winning both games in five innings, the Golden Norsemen are 14-13 on the season. The Eagles are 9-15.

NEO built a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the opener after Colton Marion drew a one-out walk.

Troy Gagan singled and Bryson Lierle walked to fill the bases. Alec Hayward reached on a fielder’s choice as Marion scored to give the Norse the lead.

Consecutive singles by Luster and Erasmo Mavarez ignited a five-run second inning for the Norsemen. After Jordan Blackmon was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Colton Marion reached on an error as both Luster and Mavarez scored.

Gagan lined an RBI single to left, scoring Blackmon and Marion came around to score on a throwing error by the pitcher.

Lierle followed with a walk before Hayward reached on an error by the Eagles shortstop, allowing Gagan to score for a 6-0 NEO lead.

After the Eagles scored a run in the top of the third inning, the Golden Norsemen added six in the bottom of the frame for a 12-1 cushion.

Luster, from Bartlesville, laced a double with the bases loaded for three RBI to highlight the inning.

Seven walks and a two-run double by Mavarez keyed a seven-run fourth inning explosion by the Norsemen.

Golden Norse starter Jared Demmel (1-0) limited the Eagles to one run on two hits in four innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Bailey Cantu relieved Demmel and allowed one run on one hit before the game ended after the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.

Gagan collected four of the 13 NEO hits while Luster had a double and single with four RBI and Mavarez added a double and single with two RBI.

Caleb Nutting contributed an RBI double.

NEO 11, Oklahoma Wesleyan JV 0

Freshmen right-handers Caleb Rogge (1-2) and Cale Crutchfield combined for a no-hitter against the Eagles.

Rogge struck out seven and walked one in four innings of work while Crutchfield struck out one and walked one in the fifth inning.

Against the Eagles in the nightcap, the Golden Norsemen scored one run in the first inning, two in the second, six in the third and two in the fourth.

Mavarez led the NEO offense with a single, two-run double and a grand slam home run with six RBI and two stolen bases.

Nutting added a two-run single while Marion hit a double and Matthew Patton had an RBI single.
