MIAMI — After opening an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference series Thursday with Eastern State College at Homa Thomas Field, the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Golden Norsemen travel to Wilburton at 1 p.m. Saturday for a double-header with the Mountaineers.

Caught in the throes of a three-game losing streak, the Golden Norse are 6-3 in the conference and 11-11 overall entering the weekend action.

Eastern's Mountaineers entered the three-game series with a 3-6 OCAC mark and a 16-9 season record.

Hosting the Division II Vikings from Carl Albert State College on Tuesday, March 20, the Norsemen suffered an 8-3 and 7-0 loss in a non-conference twinbill.

With single runs in the first and second innings, NEO grabbed a brief 2-0 lead in the first game with Carl Albert (12-8).

The Vikings responded with six runs in the top of the third inning to grab the lead for good.

Consecutive singles by Troy Gagan and Colton Marion, along with an RBI single by Dylan Taylor, accounted for NEO's final run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Marion added a solo home run to lead NEO's offense.

Against the Vikings in the second game, Carl Albert scored three runs in the first and two in the second en route to the shutout.

Christopher Despars (0-2) allowed five runs on four hits in one inning of work for NEO.

Singles by Marques Luster and Erasmo Mavarez were the only hits generated by the Golden Norse.
