WELCH — Welch posted a pair of wins against junior varsity teams from Fairland and Wyandotte here Tuesday, March 20.

The Wildcats topped the Wyandotte JV 7-6, getting what turned out to be the winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Welch then chalked up a 14-6 decision over the Fairland JV

The Wildcats broke out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning then added another in the second.

Wyandotte tied the game in the top of the fourth inning by scoring six times.

An error on a ball hit by Seth Hayward that allowed Gunner Johnson to score what turned out to be the Cats’ winning run.

Winning pitcher Nate Beaty worked out of trouble in the top of the fifth with a double play and a grounder to first.

Johnson collected a double and single while

Jake Peterson, Brady Chenoweth and Nate Beaty added singles for the Cats.

Zach Garrett, Helawa Williams, Brendan Cooper and Blaze Cole all had singles for the Bears.

The teams combined for 12 of their 20 runs in the first inning as Welch jumped out to an 8-4 lead.

The Wildcats took the lead for good in the second with a four-run rally then each team scored twice in the third.

Johnson and Brady Chenoweth each went 3-for-3. Johnson had two doubles and a single with six RBIs while Chenoweth collected three singles.

The rest of the Cats’ offense included two singles by Hunter Deerinwater, a double by Peterson and singles by Daniel Windle and Beaty, who drove in three runs in the game.

Isaac Matthews had two singles for the Owls, with

Cooper Elmer, Lane Tudor and Lane Gaines contributing singles.

Welch is idle until Saturday, March 24, when it faces Commerce at noon and Seneca at 4 p.m. in the Wyandotte Baseball Festival.
