NOWATA — Three players scored in double figures as Nowata chalked up a 78-76 victory over Wyandotte in a Class 2A Area II regional Winners Bracket C game here Friday, Feb. 23.
The Bears (20-5) face Porter in Consolation Bracket D action at Nowata.
The Pirates remained alive with a 54-46 victory over Commerce earlier Friday.
Wyandotte’s girls remained alive with a 77-64 triple overtime win against Nowata.
The Lady Bears (20-6) face Ketchum at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Kiefer rolled to a 64-24 win over the Lady Warriors.
Boys: Nowata 76, Wyandotte 74
This was the second win for Nowata, 20-3 and ranked 18th in 2A, against the Bears.
It rolled to a 93-61 victory in a semifinal game at the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M High School Basketball Tournament in January.
Just like in the earlier meeting, the Bears broke out to a lead in the first quarter only to falter.
They were up 26-7 after one, but the Ironmen held a 27-18 edge in the second period.
Nowata held a 16-14 advantage in the third then outscored WHS 28-18 over the final eight minutes.
Zen Callahan scored 21 for the Ironmen, followed by Zach Brock with 19 and Hunter Bell with 16.
Jacob Burney headed up four players who hit double digits for the Bears.
He finished with 29 points — hitting six treys — while
Trey Jones, Brendan Cooper and Ryan Cooper scored 18, 17 and 10, respectively.
Jordon Burney chipped in with two points.
Girls: Wyandotte 77, Nowata 64 (3OT)
The game was tied at 51 at the end of regulation and 55 after two overtimes.
