COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Nine members of the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M wrestling team remain alive — including seven on the winners’ side — following the first session of the NJCAA National Wrestling Championships.
The Golden Norsemen held a five-point lead over Iowa Central in the team standings, 47.5 to 42.5.
Clackamas (Oregon) Community College was third with 31.5 points.
The second session of the tournament was to begin at 6:15 p.m. at the Mid-America Center.
Advancing to the championship quarterfinals were defending 165-pound national champion Wyatt Jordan, Jack Karstetter, 133; Cody Karstetter, 141; Kendon Lee, 149; Devin Craw, 174; Zeke Silva, 197 and Brian Andrews, heavyweight.
Norse 125-pounder Boo Dryden and Alex Kauffman at 184 were still alive on the consolation side.
The only NEO wrestler eliminated was 157-pounder Zeke Rubio, who won his first match by fall but suffered back-to-back losses.
Jordan won his first two matches by fall.
The tournament continues through the championship round Saturday night.
