COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — With two remaining in the championship bracket and seven on the consolation side, top-ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M was the team leader after the first day of the NJCAA Wrestling Championships.

Defending 165-pound national champion Wyatt Jordan and heavyweight Brian Andrews both advanced to the championship semifinal round Saturday, Feb 24.

Reaching the consolation Round of 4 include 125, Boo Dryden; 133, Jack Karstetter; 141, Cody Karstetter; 148, Kendon Lee; 174, Devin Crawl; 184 Alex Kauffman and 197, Zeke Silva.

Jordan faces Jose Rodriguez of Iowa Central while Andrews has been paired against Lislate Anau of Northwest Wyoming.

Jordan ran off pins against Elijah Hollins of Rochester, 3:36; Nick Dado of Joliet, 0:47, and Jacob Swift, North Idaho, 1:54.

Andrews opened the tournament with a 16-0 technical fall against Colin McFarland of Henry Ford then eked out a 4-3 decision against Jimsher Sidhu of NIACC and blanked Jonathan Solorzano of Nassau.

Dryden, Jack Karstetter, Cody Karstetter, Lee, Crawl, Kauffman and Silva all logged first round wins but fell in the second round.

Each logged four wins to reach the consolation semifinals.

Zeke Rubio was the only NEO wrestler who was out of the running.

He pinned Jaelen Jean of Niagara but was pinned in his next two matches.

Championship semifinal and consolation quarterfinal matches begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday followed by the consolation semifinals at noon and consolation finals at 1:15 p.m.

The championship finals begin at 7 p.m.
