GLENPOOL — A 14-5 fourth-quarter burst helped seventh-ranked Glencoe rally for a 43-38 victory over Welch in Class A Area II Winners Bracket C play here Saturday, Feb. 17.

The No. 17th Lady Wildcats move on to the Area II tournament at Cleveland starting Thursday, Feb. 22.A 14-6 advantage in the third quarter gave Welch a 33-30 lead heading into the fourth.

Glencoe held a 12-10 advantage following one, then opened up a 24-19 edge at the break.

Maddie Schaper’s 12 points headed up the scoring for Welch.

Jaeli Jorgenson and Hailey Haskell had seven each, Aspen Wood and Olivia Chenoweth chipped in with five apiece and Olivia Pitcher contributed two points.

Kayla Frank was Glencoe’s leader with 14 points and Kelcey Cavett and Ava Frank added 10 each.

Welch 45, Clayton 44

A 31-20 advantage in the middle two quarters helped the Lady Wildcats move into the regional final.

Welch led fell behind 14-9 in the opening quarter but grabbed a 40-34 lead at the half.

Each team scored 12 points in the third quarter and Clayton made things interesting with a 10-5 advantage over the final eight minutes.

Chenoweth and Pitcher were Welch’s top scorers with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

All 15 of Chenoweth’s points came on 3-point goals.

Others scoring for Welch were Haskell with eight, Schaper and Jorgenson with five each and Wood chipped in with two each.

Clayton received 20 points from Sydnee Wood and 11 from McKenna Nigel.
