KIEFER – The Commerce boys held on for a 54-52 win over Haskell in a first-round Class 2A Area II District 5 playoff game here Friday, Feb. 16.

The Tigers (14-8) face Kiefer (17-5) in the 8 p.m. championship game.

Haskell ended the Commerce girls’ season with a 53-32 decision in Friday’s opener.

The Tigers held off Haskell in the fourth quarter when they were outscored 19-18. Hunter Burkybile got 13 of CHS’ 18 fourth-quarter points.

He finished with 26.

Commerce went into the half with a 21 10 lead at the half, but the Haymakers made things interesting with a 23-15 advantage in the third period.

Burkybile was joined in double figures by Danny Salinas, who got 15 points.

Lupe Prado and Ty Jauert scored six each and Gabe Craig added a free throw for the Tigers.

Haskell (7-16) had three players reach double figures, topped by Jace Dixon’s 15.

Zane Adams and Darrell McJunkins scored 12 and 11, respectively, for the Haymakers, who close at 7-16.

Girls: Haskell 53, Commerce 32

Haskell padded its 26-19 halftime score by one point in the second quarter.

The Lady Haymakers (7-16) took charge with an 18-7 advantage in the third quarter.

River Friel had 14 for the Lady Tigers (3-19), who also got nine from Ashley Myers, eight from Morgan Connell and one from Sunny Crawford.

Sydnie Roberts was Haskell’s leader with 14.
