COPAN — A rugged Lucky 7 Conference schedule got Bluejacket’s girls ready for the Class B playoffs.

The Lady Chieftains routed Wynona 68-21 on Friday, Feb. 9 and then bounced Copan 57-24 in the Area II District 3 championship game Saturday, Feb. 10.

“We really played well,” Lady Chieftain coach Jason Bates said. “There are a lot of good teams in the Lucky 7. It helped playing up a class or two classes every game.

The Lady Chieftains, now 10-12, face Timberlake in regional play Thursday, Feb. 15, at Mulhall-Orlando.

Timberlake (17-7) won the District 2 title with a 72-49 victory against Mulhall-Orlando.

Girls

Bluejacket 57, Copan 24

The Lady Chieftains limited to Copan to one basket in the first quarter then coasted.

They were up 27-10 at halftime then outscored the hosts 16-6 and 14-8 in the final two quarters.

Lea Hency and Lydia Pipins scored 13 points each for the Lady Chieftains.

Shelbie Baker added nine, followed by Laura Collins and Emily Chandler with seven each, Tiffany Ayres with four, Taci Mitchell with three and Dee Dee Satterwhite with one.

C. Barrett was Copan’s leader with six points.

Bluejacket 68, Wynona 21

Pipins, Baker and Sydnee Martin teamed up for 41 of the Lady Chieftains’ points.

Pipins had a game-high 20, followed by Baker with 11 and Martin with 10.

Buejacket turned a 23-8 lead into the first quarter into a 41-14 advantage by intermission.

The Lady Chieftains continued to pull away with a 19-4 burst in the third.

Others chipping in points for Bluejacket were Hency with six, Mitchell and Collins with five each, Satterwhite with four, Ayres with three and Daetona Mauk and Lexi Winfrey with two each.

Jaylon Horn finished with nine for Wynona (4-9).

Boys

Copan 64, Bluejacket 58

The Hornets used a 26-17 advantage in the fourth quarter to get by Bluejacket.

Copan saw a 12-11 first-quarter lead turn into a 26-21 halftime deficit.

The Hornets (8-14) outscored BHS 17-15 in the third period.

The Chieftains (13-8) had three players score in double figures, topped by Justin Pape with 19.

Coy McGlasson had 17 and Cooper Decker scored 13.

Ryder Blackfox and Gabe Arrevillagas added six and three, respectively.

C. Raymond had 37 points for Copan. He nailed 12 field goals, including three treys and was 8 of 9 at the free throw line.

The Chieftains face Mulhall-Orlando at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in a regional elimination game at Mulhall-Orlando.
