MIAMI — Miami turned in its best first quarter of the season, but couldn’t make it stand up during a 62-39 loss to Hilldale Friday, Feb. 9.

The Lady Wardogs didn’t play like an 0-20 team, holding a 14-13 advantage.

That was the first time all season that they carried the lead into the second quarter.

A free throw from Rebecca Bell made it 17-15 with 6:53 in the half.

However, the Lady Wardogs wouldn’t score again until the 26.4-second mark. By then, Hilldale had run off 12 straight points and were on top 27-21.

The Lady Hornets (9-13) held a 16-9 edge in the third quarter then outscored Miami 19-9 over the final eight minutes.

The Lady Wardogs, who turned the ball over 48 times, were led in scoring by Bayleigh Beckwith, who had 13 points.

Others scoring for Miami were Shelby Hubbard and Rebecca Bell, eight each; Maddie Arnold and Abby Osborn, four each, and Ramsee Allemann, two.

Lacey Bell had 19 points and Mikayla Maxwell contributed 11 for Hilldale.
