AFTON — Fairland picked up a pair of wins at the expense of arch-rival Afton here Monday, Jan. 29.
The Lady Owls picked up a 44-36 victory before Fairland’s boys coasted 59-41.
Girls: Fairland 44, Afton 36
The Lady Owls saw a 15-7 lead in the first quarter turn into a 21-21 tie at intermission.
Fairland held an 11-8 edge in the third quarter then nailed down the win with a 12-9 edge over the final eight minutes.
Kyndall Davis netted 23 for Fairland’s girls, scoring 16 in the second half, including three treys in the third.
Ciara Allen chipped in with nine points, followed by Seven from Nikki Dingle and Jessica Roberts, two from Cayden Harper and one from Makayla Jackson.
Carlee Shinn was Afton’s top scorer with 13 points.
She was joined by Skyler Hicks, six; Clarissa Rice and Layne Hudson five each; QuettaWoodall, four, and Ashley Turley, two.
Boys: Fairland 59, Afton 41
The Owls scored 22 point in the opening frame, taking a 22-9 lead.
Afton held an 18-16 halftime lead, but the Owls turned things around with a 11-10 and 10-4 advantage in the final two quarters.
Twenty points by Thatcher Smalley headed up the Fairland scoring.
Isaac Matthews and James Morris scored 11 and 10, respectively.
Others scoring for Fairland were Cole Cawlfield, nine; Cayden Elliott, six; Brion Padberg, two, and Jose Garcia, one.
Briar Julian scored 16 for Afton, which also got eight each from Cole Mikesell, Brett Fuser and Brett Hollon. Bailey Forgey added a free throw.
Fairland travels to Bluejacket on Friday, Feb. 2.
Afton host Ketchum Friday, Feb 2, Oklahoma Union on Tuesday, Feb. 6 and Colcord Thursday, Feb. 8.
