COMMERCE — Baxter Springs coasted to a pair of wins over Commerce here Monday, Jan. 29.

The Lady Tigers suffered a 55-33 loss before the boys dropped a 69-41 decision.

The Lions turned a one-point first-quarter lead into a 12-point margin at the half with a 21-10 advantage in the second period.

Baxter continued to pull away in the second half with 20-10 and 12-7 margins.

Danny Salinas was the leading scorer for Commerce (10-5) with 16 points.

Hunter Burkybile and Chris Ibarra added eight each, followed by Lupe Prado with four, Ty Jauert with three and Bryar Chandler, two.

Junior guard Trey White had 32 points for the Lions, who also got 13 from Preston Landis.

Girls: Baxter Sprigs 55, Commerce 33

Delaney Barnes and Abby Vandhill combined for 42 of the Lady Lions points in the game.

Barnes scored 28 and Vandhill contributed 14.

Baxter Springs jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the opening frame but the Lady Tigers narrowed the gap to 22-17 by the break.

The Kansans broke the game open with a 19-5 burst in the third quarter then outscored CHS 14-11 in the fourth.

Sunny Crawford and Morgan Connell scored six and five points, respectively, for the Lady Tigers (2-13).

Dawn Convirs added three, Miriam Nino and Marisa Scott netted two each and Ashley Myers chipped in with a free throw.
