FAIRLAND — The Commerce boys logged their seventh win in the last eight games Tuesday, Jan. 23, with a 50-43 win against Fairland.

The Tigers put together wins over Fairland, Bluejacket and Welch, lost to Colcord by six, then went 3-0 in the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M High School Basketball Tournament.

The boys’ game saw the teams flip things around in the first half.

Fairland was up 14-11 after one but the Tigers held a 14-11 advantage in the second to tie the game.

Commerce (9-4) outscored the Owls 13-6 in the third Each team scored 12 over the last eight minutes.

Hayden Moss and Hunter Burkybile had 12 points each and Danny Salinas added 11 for the Tigers.

Others with points for Commerce were Chris Ibarra, five; Lupe Prado and Briar Chandler, four each, and Cruz Munson, two.

Cole Cawlfield and Isaac Matthews were Fairland’s offensive leaders, Cawlfield get 16 points and Matthews 14.

The Owls (6-9) also got six points from James Morris, four from Thatcher Smalley, two from Trey Martin and one from Jay Padberg.

Girls: Fairland 47, Commerce 27

The Lady Tigers managed only a free throw in the first half and seven points in the second to trail 8-1 and 27-8.

Commerce held a 14-4 edge in the third quarter then the Lady Owls (6-9) put the game away with a 16-5 run in the fourth.

Kyndall Davis accounted for 21 of Fairland 47 points in the game

Nikki Dingle chipped in with nine, Savanna Hutchison had seven and Ciara Allen picked up six points. Elizabeth Boyd and Makayla Jackson netted two each.

Dawn Convirs was the leader for Commerce (2-11) with seven points, followed by Morgan Connell with six

River Friel five and Marisa Scott, Sunny Crawford and Miriam Nino with three each.

Fairland faces a grind of four games in eight days, traveling to Foyil Friday, Jan 26, Quapaw on Saturday, Jan. 27, and Afton on Monday, Jan. 29. It hosts Wyandotte Tuesday, Jan. 30.
