QUAPAW — The Quapaw girls won a second straight nailbiter here Tuesday, Jan. 23.

The Lady Wildcats, who topped Joplin Thomas Jefferson 27-22 in the Girls Norse final at the NEO Tournament Saturday, Jan. 20, defeated Riverton, Kansas, by the same score Tuesday night.

Riverton gained a split on the night with a 50-44 decision.

The girls game saw each team score four points in the opening frame and Riverton hold a 3-2 edge in the second.

The Lady Rams bumped their lead to 14-12 going into the fourth, when Quapaw held a 15-8 advantage to pull out the win.

The Lady Cats picked up nine points from Mya Nichols, followed by Karissa Anderson with eight, Lu Attocknie with six and Shea Otteson and Skyler Evans two each.

Flake scored 10 for the Lady Rams.

Boys: Riverton 50, Quapaw 44

Riverton used a 29-19 second half advantage to turn back the Wildcats.

Quapaw trailed 10-8 after one, but coasted into intermission with a 25-22 advantage.

Riverton flipped things around with a 15-6 edge in the third quarter then nailed down the win with a one-point edge in the fourth.

The Wildcats (5-11) received nine points each from Kai Anderson and Matt Lovell, seven from Chris Durbin, six each from Kale Thomasson and Caleb Hoffman, five from Jonas Gregory and two from Rex Burkybile.

The Rams had two players in double figures: Carter Brown with 16 and Bryce Johnson with 11.


Quapaw hosts Fairland Saturday, Jan. 27, and Afton on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
