MIAMI — The Afton boys picked up their first win of the season Thursday, Jan. 18, in the first round of the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M High School Basketball Tournament presented by American Bus Sales.
The Eagles, one of seven Lucky 7 Conference teams that posted wins on the first day of the tournament, rolled to a 58-42 decision over Chetopa, Kansas, in a Boys Norse bracket win.
Other winners Thursday were the Wyandotte, Bluejacket and Commerce boys and Welch, Wyandotte, Quapaw and Fairland girls.
Welch and Fairland are defending champs.
The Welch girls, 17th in Class A improved to 13-1 with a 69-15 romp over Tulsa Wright Christian in the Girls Blue bracket.
Fairland launched defense of its Girls Norse title with a 47-39 decision against Cave Springs.
Wyandotte’s boys, 16th in Class 2A, jumped out to a 31-point halftime lead and breezed to an 82-37 Boys Blue win over Cave Springs.
That was the eighth straight for the Bears, who are 10-1.
Wyandotte’s girls ran their winning streak to nine in a row by turning back Chetopa, Kansas, 46-42 in Girls Blue play.
