MIAMI — Miami Public Schools director of athletics Chad Davis has confirmed that head football coach Andrew Rice has tendered his resignation to explore other options.

Rice met with his staff and players earlier this morning.

Rice’s resignation will be discussed and voted on at tonight’s regularly scheduled board of education meeting.

This caps a whirlwind 24 hours that saw it made official Sunday that Northeastern Oklahoma A&M head coach Clay Patterson was stepping down.

The Wardogs were 1-9 in Rice’s only season.

He had succeeded James Cheatham, who stepped down after four seasons as MHS head coach.

Rice previously was offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Bartlesville.

The Wardogs dropped their first eight games then rolled to a 32-19 win over Vinita in Week 9 for their only win while playing in Oklahoma’s toughest Class 4A district.
