TULSA — The Welch girls finally shook off the holiday rust in the second half of their game with Kremlin-Hillsdale here Friday, Jan. 29.

The Lady Wildcats (8-1) trailed 20-19 at the break, but scored 23 points in the third quarter and 15 more in the fourth to claim a 47-30 victory at Tulsa Rogers High School.

Kremlin-Hillsdale won the boys game, 48-38.

The Lady Broncs (4-7) were up 10-9 after the first quarter then carried a one-point lead into the break.

Welch carried a 32-28 advantage into the fourth, when the Lady Cats held a 15-2 advantage.

“Played well defensively in second half,” Welch coach Shawn Goodwin said in a text message. “Really proud of them.”

Olivia Chenoweth scored 17 points and Aspen Wood added 14 for Welch.

The Lady Wildcats also got nine from

Haylie Haskell, six from Maddie Schaper, four each from Jaeli Jorgenson and Olivia Pitcher and three from Jayci Atwood.

Mahayla Mitchell paced Kremlin with 18 points.

Boys: Kremlin-Hillsdale 48, Welch 38

Welch (3-6) saw a 12-8 first quarter lead flip to a 29-19 deficit by the half.

The Broncs (8-3) held a 9-8 edge in the third and Welch created the final margin with an 11-10 advantage in the fourth.

Braxton Turner scored 14 and Colton Armstrong netted 13 for Welch.

Others scoring for the Cats were Gunner Johnson with four; Trenton Seigel, three, and Seth Haywood and Nate Beaty, two each.

Cody Bower, a 6-5 senior, was the Broncs’ scoring leader with 21 points. He was joined in double figures by Elijah Norwood with 13.
