ADAIR — Ryan Cooper hit two free throws with no time remaining as Wyandotte’s boys nipped Locust Grove 64-63 Monday, Dec. 4, in the first round of the Adair Tournament.
Cooper was fouled while launching a 3-point goal at the buzzer.
He converted on two of his three chances to give the Bears their second win and pin the first loss of the season on Locust Grove.
Locust Grove rolled to a 59-33 win over the Lady Bears in an earlier game.
The Lady Bears face Claremore Sequoyah at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, in a consolation game.
Wyandotte’s boys and Gravette, Arkansas, tangle in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Wyandotte 64, Locust Grove 63
The Bears used a 24-19 edge over the final eight minutes to rally from a 44-40 deficit heading into the fourth quarter.
Wyandotte led 20-18 after the opening frame then carried a 30-28 lead into the half.
The 4A Pirates took the lead in the third quarter thanks to a 16-10 advantage.
Three players scored in double figures for Wyandotte. Trey Jones led the way with 18 points and Cooper and Jacob Burney added 14 each.
Jordon Burney chipped in with eight points, Brendon Cooper had seven and Cody Teal finished with three.
Caden Bendabout and Brady Bendabout had 12 points each for the Pirates.
Locust Grove 59, Wyandotte 33
The Lady Pirates broke out to an 18-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Locust Grove held a 13-11 edge in the second frame then saw the Lady Bears hold an 11-9 advantage in the third.
A 12-4 run in the fourth helped Locust Grove (2-1) seal the win.
Tarrah Stephens led the way for Wyandotte with 16 points.
Aranda Nair added seven, followed by Kylee Severs with five and Maddie Branham with three. Makinzi Powell tallied for WHS.
Regan Torrey and Katie Hildreth were Locust Grove’s leaders with 12
and 10, respectively.
