MIAMI — After scoring all the points in regulation, the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Lady Norse soccer team battled Murray State College to a 3-3 draw in double overtime Sunday, Oct. 1, at Red Robertson Field.
The Lady Norse remain at home for a 5 p.m. rematch Thursday against the Rose State College Lady Raiders. NEO is 2-6-1 on the season and a 2-2 in Region II play. The Lady Raiders are 8-4 overall and 4-2 in regional action.
Heavy rain last week forced postponement on of a match in Wilburton Thursday, Sept. 28, between the Lady Norse and Eastern State College.
“We will make the Eastern match up at 3 p.m., Oct. 17,” Lady Norse head coach Lisa Bell said.
NEO grabbed a 1-0 lead against Murray State (7-4-1) at the 5-minute mark as midfielder Cassidy Rumsey sent a pass to midfielder Caroline Bird for a goal.
The Lady Aggies responded with 12 minutes showing on the clock to create a 1-1 tie going into halftime. Forward Lauren Watkins scored the goal with an assist from Candis Bak.
Veteran forward Ashya Butler scored consecutive unassisted goals over a three-minute period in the second half as NEO built a 3-1 margin at 65:44.
Consecutive goals at 67 minutes and 81 minutes by forward Haley Balesteri rallied the Lady Aggies to a 3-3 tie.
“Even though we haven’t achieved the certain outcome that we wanted, we’re making a lot of progress,” Bell said. “Several key injuries have forced us to play different personnel.
“All in all though, I’m kind of aiming at growth by our entire team,” Bell said. “On the plus side we’re getting to see different combinations of girls working together.”
