MIAMI — Miami warmed up for Class 4A regional play with a 13-0 romp over Tulsa Memorial Monday, Oct. 2 at Turner Field.
Abby Ishmael had nine strikeouts and no walks. She retired the final seven batters she faced, including the final five on strikeouts.
Memorial (3-23) had only three hits.
The Lady Wardogs (19-8) face Hilldale at noon Thursday, Oct. 5 in a first round regional game at Hilldale.
Checotah and Cleveland play in the other first-round game.
“It’s a very good regional field,” Miami coach Lauren Strack said. “I always like playing at Hilldale, good facilities and good atmosphere.”
The Lady Wardogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first game and pulled away.
They got four more in the second and broke the game open with a six-run rally in the third.
Ten batters went to the plate in the third, the key hits a two-run single by Jordan Davis and back-to-back RBI triples by Jessie Ishmael and Lauren Willard.
Miami also got runs on an error and passed ball.
The Lady Wardogs tacked on a final run in the fourth.
The outcome could have been even more lopsided: Miami had a runner thrown out at home in the first and left seven runners stranded.
The Lady Wardogs left the bases loaded in the second and stranded a runner at third in the opening frame.
“This time of the year I feel like practice can get a little monotonous because you are either ready or you aren’t – and the kids are ready,” Strack said. “We are hoping to have one last hard practice on the field today (Tuesday) before it rains and some quality cage time tomorrow before going into the regional.”
Jessie Ishmael went 4-for-4 with a triple, double and two RBIs.
Davis contributed three singles.
Abby Ishmael had a double and single and Rebecca Bell added two singles.
Willard tripled and Kori Robison and Phoenix Burrow had a single each.
