FAIRLAND — Two runs in the bottom of the fourth provided the margin of difference as Howe topped Fairland 6-4 in the championship game of a Class 2A regional here Friday, Sept. 29.

The Lady Owls had forced the deciding game with an 8-5 win earlier Friday.

Fairland topped Wyandotte 10-3 in the first round then dropped a 12-1 decision to Howe in the winners’ bracket final on Thursday, Sept. 28.

The Lady Owls remained alive with a 10-5 win over Wyandotte in an elimination game Friday.

“Third game of the day is really tough, but we competed hard and played hard,” Fairland coach Chad Ross said. “We put ourselves in a position to win it. It could have gone either way.”

Fairland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Nikki Dingle and a run-scoring double from Savannah Hutchison.

Howe cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first then went up 4-2 in the second on a bases-loaded double by Sydnie Womack.

The Lady Lions picked up a critical two runs in the fourth when Womack delivered a two-run double.

Fairland pulled to within two runs in the fifth.

Alexis McGranahan started the inning with a single then Kyndall Davis walked.

Madison Stotts hit into a fielders’ choice, erasing McGranahan then Dingle was out on the infield fly rule.

Davis scored on a passed ball then Hutchison double home a run.

The Lady Owls threatened in the sixth with a single by Dushane and walk to Tori Barker, but both were left stranded.

Then in the seventh, Hutchison reached on a two-out error, but Ashton Mowery was out to end the game.

“We never did get the big hit to put us over the top,” Ross said.

Hutchison had two doubles and McGranahan chipped in with two singles.

Dingle, Dushane and Lilly Triplett all had singles.

Womack delivered two doubles and a single with three RBIs for the Lady Lions.

Loren Ford-Rogers also had two singles.

“They hit the ball pretty well and didn’t make many mistakes,” Ross said. “I think they had one error in the three games we played.”

Fairland 8, Howe 5

Three runs in the final three innings helped the Lady Owls force the “if” game.

Howe created a 5-5 tie in the fourth, but the Lady Owls grabbed the lead on an RBI double by Hutchison.

Fairland got a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh when a popup by Hutchison was dropped and Mowery singled.

Dingle sandwiched two walks around the three outs in the bottom of the seventh to nail down the win.

Davis delivered two singles, Hutchison doubled and Dingle and Mowery chipped in with a single each.

The Lady Lions got a double and single from Oglesby and two singles from Justyn Lynn.

Fairland 10, Wyandotte 5

Fairland led 8-0 before Wyandotte got its first three runs in the top of the fourth on a two run homer by Elizabeth Mensink and a solo shot by Makinze Powell.

The Lady Owls scored twice in the fifth before WHS scratched out single runs in the sixth and seventh.

Dingle was 4-for-4 with three doubles and six RBIs for Fairland, which also got two singles from Davis.

Hutchison doubled and Mowery and Barker had a single each.

Dingle logged 10 strikeouts and one walk while working around eight hits.

Aranda Nair went 4-for-4 for the Lady Bears.

Powell had a single to go with her home run.

Mensink had the homer and Jennelle Lundien added a double.
