COVINGTON — Welch makes a long drive for its Class B fast-pitch softball regional, traveling 156 miles west to Covington-Douglas.

The Wildcats are joined in a field that includes Arnett, Prue and the hosts.

“I like the draw, the long drive not so much,” Welch coach Sam Schaper said.

Welch enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed with Arnett No. 1, Covington-Douglas 3 and Prue 4.

The Lady Wildcats face Covington-Douglas at noon Thursday, Sept. 28 followed by Arnett and Prue at 2 p.m.

First-round losers play at 2 p.m. with the winners meeting at 4 p.m.

Friday’s noon opener is an elimination game with the championship at 2 p.m.

An “if necessary” game would follow at 4 p.m. with the winner moving on to the state tournament.

Welch swept South Coffeyville 12-3 and 14-0 in District 24 play.

Arnett won District 1 with 14-0 and 10-0 wins against Boise City.

Covington-Douglas, the District 13 champ, swept Mulhall-Orlando 7-4 and 14-3.

Prue defeated Shidler 17-4 and Wynona 12-2 before stopping Shidler 9-5 in the District 23 final.

Prue topped Covington 6-5 on Aug. 18 in the Jennifer Lazenby Memorial Tournament at Glencoe.
