FAIRLAND — The field for a Class 2A fast-pitch softball regional at Fairland is loaded with four 20-plus win teams, three of which are ranked.
The host Lady Owls (27-5) are eighth in 2A. They are joined by No. 9 Howe (26-9) and No. 12 Chouteau (23-10).
Also in the field is 22-11 Wyandotte, which had been a top 20 team earlier in the season.
Play begins Thursday, Sept. 28 with Fairland facing Wyandotte at noon.
Chouteau and Howe square off at 2 p.m.
This will be the third meeting this season between Fairland and the Lady Bears, with FHS winning both.
The Lady Owls logged a 5-0 win on Aug. 12 in the Quapaw Tournament then rolled 11-2 at Wyandotte on Aug. 21.
Fairland swept Quapaw 7-3 and 13-9 in District 26 play on Thursday, Sept. 21.
Wyandotte crushed Commerce 20-2 and 10-0 in District 21 action Sept. 21.
The Lady Bears dropped a 15-5 decision to 3A No. 9 Adair Monday to get ready for the regional.
Chouteau, which lost to 3A No. 19 Tulsa Lincoln Christian 7-1 in a pre-regional tune-up Monday, blasted Ketchum 17-2 and 19-2 in District 25.
Howe, located south of Poteau in LeFlore County, stopped Talihina 6-5 and 17-0 in District 30 play. The Lady Lions went 9-6 against ranked opposition.
The two first-round losers play at 2 p.m. with the winners meeting at 4 p.m.
Friday’s noon opener is an elimination game with the championship at 2 p.m.
An “if necessary” game would follow at 4 p.m. with the winner moving on to the state tournament.
