CHELSEA — Three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning helped Chelsea claim a 6-5 win on Fairland in the final game of a fastpitch softball festival here Tuesday, Aug. 29.
That was the first loss of the season for Fairland (13-1), which had topped Tulsa Lincoln Christian 6-3 in an earlier game.
Lincoln rolled to a 12-7 win over Chelsea in the day’s first game.
Chelsea 6, Fairland 5
The Lady Owls pushed its lead to 5-0 in the top of the fourth only to have Chelsea score three times in the fourth and a final three times in the sixth.
Cassi Smith delivered an RBI single and Carson Draeger added a two-run double for the Lady Dragons.
In the Fairland half of the seventh, winning pitcher Courtney LeGrand retired the side in order on a ground out, fly ball to center and a popup to the catcher.
Losing pitcher Nikki Dingle and Ashton Mowery had a double and two singles each.
Madison Stotts had two singles while Tori Barker, Chelsea Dushane and Kaylee Schumacher each had a single.
Ayche Marchoud had three singles for Chelsea.
Dingle allowed eight hits. Only three of the Lady Dragons’ runs were earned as Fairland had three errors.
Dingle struck out six and walked four.
Fairland 6, Lincoln Christian 3
Dingle struck out nine and walked none while scattering six hits.
Fairland led 2-1 after two innings and each team got a run in the third.
The Lady Owls scored once in the fifth and got a final two tallies in the fifth.
Lincoln created the final margin with a run in its half of the seventh.
Stotts delivered a triple and single for the Lady Owls.
Savannah Hutchison tripled and Mowery singled.
Allison Helland had two singles for the Lady Bulldogs.
