QUAPAW — A five-run fifth inning helped Commerce take charge in an 11-8 fastpitch softball game here Tuesday, Aug. 29.
The Lady Tigers (9-7) trailed 6-4 heading into the fifth, when Cali Wells drilled a two-run triple, Ashley Barton singled home a run and Morgan Connell drove in two more with a base hit.
A passed ball and RBI single by Skyler Evans helped Quapaw narrow the gap to 8-7, but CHS scored one run in the sixth and added two more in the seventh.
The Lady Wildcats (4-5) created the final score with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Connell went 4-for-5 with three RBIs for Commerce, which also got three singles from Barton, a triple and double from Wells and two singles each from Morgan Ballard and Sunny Crawford.
River Friel chipped in with a single.
Elizabeth Flaming collected a double and two singles for the Lady Cats. Jenni Jennings had a double and single while Mya Perry and Evans added two singles each.
Lakyn Buffalo singled for Quapaw.
Barton struck out nine and walked one while picking up the win.
Jennings fanned seven and walked four as the loser.
The teams combined for seven errors, Commerce with four and Quapaw three.
