COMMERCE — The start time for Thursday’s games in the Lady Tiger Classic fastpitch softball tournament that begins here Thursday, Aug. 31, have been pushed back 30 minutes.

Play on Thursday now starts at 10 a.m. with Afton facing Commerce.

Other games include Fairland vs. Verdigris, 11:30 a.m.; East Newton vs. Afton, 1 p.m.; Adair vs. Verdigris, 2;30 p.m.; Seneca vs. Fairland, 4 p.m.; Quapaw vs. East Newton, 5:30 p.m.; Adair vs. Seneca, 7 p.m., and Commerce vs. Quapaw, 8:30 p.m.

The schedule on Friday includes Adair vs. Fairland, 10 a.m.; Quapaw vs. Afton, 11:30 a.m.; Seneca vs. Verdigris, 1 p.m., and Commerce vs. East Newton, 2:30 p.m.

The seventh-place game will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by the fifth-place game at 11:30 a.m. and third place will be decided at 1 p.m.

The finals will be at 2:30 p.m.

There will be a 70-minute time limit on the first 15 games but there no restriction for the championship.

The top six teams are back for the tournament.

Verdigris, East Newton, Missouri, Quapaw, Fairland, Seneca and the host Lady Tigers will be joined by Afton and Adair in the field.

Verdigris topped East Newton 3-0 in the championship game, Fairland beat Quapaw 4-1 for third and Seneca slipped by Commerce 3-2 in the fifth-place game at last year’s tournament.

Eight pool games are scheduled for Thursday with a final four on Friday, Sept. 1.

The seventh-, fifth-, third- and first-place games will be Saturday, Sept. 2, beginning at 10 a.m.

Afton, Commerce, East Newton and Quapaw make up the Blue pool while Adair, Seneca, Fairland and Verdigris make up the White pool.

Verdigris is the top-ranked team in Class 3A according to Adair is eighth in 3A and Fairland sixth in 2A.

Verdigris scored all of its runs in the bottom of the third in the championship game.

A.J. Waggnor led the champs with three hits, while pitcher Jaysan Gibson fanned seven batters on giving up six hits.
