MIAMI — After two weeks of preseason workouts, the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Lady Norse soccer team opens the regular season at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, against the State Fair Community College Lady Greyhounds on the turf of Red Roberson Field.
Nine of their first 13 matches will be played at home for a Lady Norse side that returns six sophomores among a 19-player roster.
Last season, the Lady Norse finished second in the Region II Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 7-2-1 record.
NEO advanced to the opening round of the district tournament to finish 11-6-1 overall.
Under first year head coach Jaime Beltran the Lady Roadrunners, located in Sedalia, Missouri, finished 12-8-3 on the year.
This match is the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Returning to start at goalie for the Lady Norse is sophomore Madison Smith of Ponca City.
As a freshman, Smith appeared in six games and recorded 11 saves.
Academic all-American Chloe Shipway of Bristol, England, returns as a center midfielder. She started all 18 games last year.
Shipway posted three goals and six assists among 12 shots on goal. She also finished with 31 total shots.
Sophomore Zarah Arnaud of Winnipeg, Manitoba, also returns as a center mid for NEO.
Arnaud scored five goals and two assists in 13 games as a freshman. She also attempted 30 shots on goal out of 39 total attempts.
Arnaud led the Lady Norse with four match-winning goals.
Veteran Dani Cole of Springfield, Missouri, is alternating at middle along with freshmen Cassidy Rumsey, Claremore; Caroline Bird, Owasso, and Cali Houck, Edmond Santa Fe.
Sophomore Ashya Butler of Nassau, Bahamas, returns as a forward after making seven starts in 17 games last season.
She recorded eight goals and one assist out of 37 total shots. Butler attempted 24 shots on goal.
Freshman providing depth at forward is Anise Darville of Nassau, Bahamas.
Returning as defenders are sophomores Bailee Russell of Rogers, Arkansas, and Madelyn Ramsay of Katy, Texas.
Russell started 14 games as a middle hitter last season. She made one goal and one assist.
Ramsay appeared in eight games while starting two as a defender.
Providing depth as a defender are redshirt freshman Madison Blair of Muskogee; freshmen Kaylee Miller, El Reno; Joelle Nelson, Collinsville; former Lady Norse basketball player Paige Miller, Grove; Bailey Taylor, Catoosa, and Journey Jaquez of Muskogee.
