CHELSEA — Fairland accomplished what it set out to do during its scrimmage here Friday, Aug. 18

“Overall, we were real pleased,” said head coach Kent Marshall. “We can tell our kids understand what we’re trying to get done. We’ve gotta be pleased with it.”

Joining the Owls for the first scrimmage of 2017 were Chouteau and Chelsea.

“We had some kids step up who we weren’t expecting, which is always a good thing,” Marshall said. “Our kids gave us great effort. When we asked them to give a little more, they gave a little more. We will just keep going from here.”

Fairland opens the regular season Thursday, Aug. 24, at Colcord in Week Zero action.

“It’s typical Colcord: they are going to hit you in the mouth,” Marshall said. “They have kids that can run and have some big kiss. We have a huge challenge in front of us.”

The Hornets rolled to a 47-7 win in last year’s meeting.

“Our kids are ready to get cranked up and get started,” Marshall said.
