SAND SPRINGS – Four future Northeastern Oklahoma A&M athletes posted wins during the Oklahoma Coaches Association all-state wrestling competition Wednesday night.
Future NEO wrestlers Alex Kauffman of Vinita and Jack Karstetter of Sand Springs logged decisions while Justin Cates of Fort Gibson had to settle for a draw.
Ross Shawnee of Geary, who will only play football for the Norsemen, also got a decision.
In the small school match, Kauffman rolled to an 11-1 decision over Daniel Lopez of Clinton at 182 pounds while Cates — a late addition — and Tanner Hawkins of Weatherford battled to a 5-5 draw at 195.
Hawkins got a takedown with 20 seconds left that created the deadlock.
Karstetter coasted to a 7-1 decision over Drew Wilson in the large school 138-pound match.
Ross Shawnee of Geary, who has signed to play football for the Golden Norsemen, rolled 9-1 against Zack Lowry of Perry at 170.
The Small West posted a 28-19 win while the Large East rolled 35-12.
