MIAMI — Chad Davis, director of football operations at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, was hired as athletic director for Miami Public Schools.
His hiring was made official at a special meeting of the Miami Board of Education on Friday, May 19.
Davis succeeds James Cheatham, another former NEO assistant, who had been AD and head football coach.
The two positions have been separated. Andrew Rice was named MHS head football coach in February.
In addition to his duties as athletic director, Davis also will serve as MPS director of transportation.
He had spent the past nine years at NEO — six as an assistant coach and three on the administrative side.
“That has given me some opportunities to get into the administrative side of athletics,” Davis said.
His responsibilities at NEO included practice organization, organizing team travel, monitoring student-athlete eligibility requirements, director of summer football camps, recruiting and fundraising.
Prior to moving to the administrative side, Davis coached defensive backs, where he coached eight all-Southwest Junior College Athletic Conference players, two NJCAA All-Americans and 10 players who received Division 1 offers after their time as a Norseman.
