JAY — Welch dropped a pair of games to larger schools Tuesday, April 11.

The Lady Wildcats suffered a 14-3 loss to Inola then fell 15-0 to 5A No. 10 Jay.

A day earlier, Welch picked up a sweep of Afton, taking 8-1 and 12-7 decisions.

Inola 14, Welch 3

Inola took charge early, breaking out to a 3-0 lead in the first.

The Lady Longhorns added four runs in the second then made it 11-1 after three.

Each team scored two runs in the fourth inning.

Ashlee Morgan had a solo homer in the first inning and a single while Madison Schaper collected two singles.

Madison Gilman and Olivia Pitcher doubled and Brennae Perkins and Jalynn Giles each had singles.

Jay 15, Welch 0

Caitlin Taylor limited the Lady Wildcats to four hits while getting the shutout, Jay’s third of the season.

Ashlee Morgan had a double and Madisen Horton, Madison Schaper and Emily Piercefield all had singles for Welch.

Lexi Taylor collected a homer and two singles and Jade Creekkiller belted two doubles and a single for Jay, which also beat Inola 17-5.

Welch 8, Afton 1

The Lady Cats followed up a four-run first inning with a two-run rally in the second.

Afton’s only run came in the first.

Gilman had a double and single and Perkins added two singles.

Chenoweth tripled, Pitcher doubled and Horton and Taylar Costerisan each had a single.

Sam Saylor was Afton’s offensive leader with a double and two singles.

Carlee Shinn chipped in with a double and single and Savanna Milliken, Katie Miller and Sidney Huddleston all had singles.

Welch 12, Afton 7

The Lady Wildcats collected 19 hits, including seven for extra bases.

Afton led 4-3 after one, but the Lady Cats took the lead for good in the second with a seven-run rally. They got a final two in the third.

Afton tacked on two more runs in the third then added one more in the fifth.

Gilman had two doubles and a single and Schaper added a double and two singles for Welch.

Chenoweth and Horton each had a double and single and Perkins collected two singles.

Pitcher blasted a grand slam in the first inning for Welch. Giles doubled and Morgan, Costerisan and Piercefield all had singles.

Milliken was Afton’s top hitter with two triples and a double.

Rachele Williams and Taylie Burrow each had a double and single and Saylor added two singles.

Daylee Osburn, Huddleston and Clarissa Rice each had singles.
