COMMERCE — Scoring runs in four of the five innings, McDonald County High rolled to a 9-1 win over Miami in the Mickey Mantle Classic Triple Crown Division third place game Saturday.
Both Miami and McDonald County, located in Anderson, Missouri, finished 1-1 in pool play.
The Wardogs topped Tahlequah Sequoyah but fell to eventual champ Neosho, Missouri.
McDonald County lost to Wyandotte then defeated Locust Grove.
The Mustangs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Miami (7-15) tied the score in the second when Brant Morris walk, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch.
McDonald County took the lead in the third with a single run then came back to get five runs in the fourth and a final two in the fifth.
Eli Coyne and Isaac Keller had Miami’s only hits against the McDonald County’s Jamie Hanke.
Hanke struck out nine and walked two.
Jordan Platter, Hanke and Tyler Stoutsenberger had two singles each for the Mustangs.
Emmanuel Balsch and Boston Dowd had a single each.
Morris worked the first three innings for the Wardogs, then turned things over to Brad Hartman.
Maison Neece pitched the final 1 1/3 innings.
Miami hosted Locust Grove Monday then faced the Pirates on the road Tuesday.
The Pirates finished sixth in the Mantle Classic after dropping a 10-3 decision to Sequoyah.
