FAIRLAND — A new champion will be crowned during the second Fairland Owls Invitational baseball tournament, which runs Thursday, April 13 through Saturday, April 16.

The Baxter Spring JV beat Vinita for the championship, while the Grove JV nipped host Fairland, 8-7, for third-place at last year’s tournament.

Afton scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to top Commerce 7-6 for the consolation title.

None of the JV teams are back.

Joining the host Owls this year will be newcomers Oaks, Hulbert and Quapaw as well as Afton, Copan, Commerce and Colcord.

First-round games include Oaks vs. Afton at 10 a.m. and Fairland vs. Copan at noon on Thursday and Quapaw vs. Colcord at 10 a.m. and Commerce vs. Hulbert at noon Friday.

Consolation games will be at 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday with winners’ bracket semifinal games at 4 p.m. both days.

The seventh-place game will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by the fifth-place at noon, third-place at 2 p.m. and the championship game at 4 p.m.
