BROKEN ARROW — Gunner Johnson doubled home Chance Perry with what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the seventh and Welch outslugged Summit Christian Academy 12-11 here Thursday.

Summit (0-4) had gone up 10-5 with a three run rally in the bottom of the fifth, but the Wildcats (3-1) made things interesting in the final two innings.

They got three runs in the sixth to cut the gap to 10-9, and after Summit got a run back to make it 11-9, Welch scored three times in its final at-bat to claim the win.

Josh Baker started the rally with a one-out walk. Seth Chapman followed with another walk before he was erased when Nolan Schaper hit into a fielder’s choice.

Schaper stole second and he and Baker scored on a single by Perry.

Johnson’s double to left scored Perry with the Cats’ 12th run.

Perry, the third pitcher used by Welch, retired the first two batters then hit Justin Goyer with a pitch.

The game ended when Andru McDaniel flied out to Brace Welch in center.

Summit erupted for six runs in the bottom of the second only to have Welch counter with a four-run burst in the top of the third.

It was 7-6 after four and 10-6 after five.

Schaper and Perry had two hits each for the Cats, who also got the double from Johnson and singles by Casey Perry, Brace Welch and J Peterson.

Daniel Giddens, Grant Edgeller, Goyer, McDaniel, Woods and Noah Allen all had a single for the Eagles.

Welch faced Chelsea Friday in the first round of the Caney Valley Tournament.
