MIAMI — Four different players scored goals for Miami as the Wardogs coasted to a 4-1 victory over Westville here Thursday night.

Westville coasted to a 4-0 win in the girls’ game.

The Wardogs (1-1) broke out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Trevor Sourjohn.

They added a second goal a short time later then scored twice in the second half.

Cade Friend, Shane Haile and Grant Hubbard had Miami’s other markers.

“It’s going to be score by committee this year,” Miami coach David Douthit said.

Last season, Ben Pulley carried the bulk of the offensive load, hitting the back of the net 32 times.

“I thought we played pretty well,” Douthit said. “A 4-1 score in soccer is pretty decisive, but we hit the post three or four times. We were off just a tad on our finishing.”

Girls: Westville 5, Miami 1

Westville (3-0) led 2-1 at the half then took charge over the final 40 minutes.

“It was a game that I thought we could come out in the second half and win,” Douthit said. “It was a couple mistakes defensively. On one, we didn’t clear the ball and had a girl fall down.”

The Lady Wardog roster is down to 15 players and “we don’t have a lot of depth,” Douthit said.

Miami swings back into action on Tuesday, March 21 against Tulsa Webster in the District 4A-5 opener.
