TULSA — Welch managed only one hit in an 8-0 shutout loss to Regent Preparatory Academy here Tuesday.
The game was only 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when Regent erupted for seven runs.
The Wildcats’ only hit was a one-out single in the first by Chance Perry.
Welch (1-1) had only three other runners in the game, including Perry who walked, stole second and advanced to third when Gunner Johnson grounded out in the fourth.
Blake Brannon walked then Regent starter Jeff Garrett struck out the next two batters.
Perry reached on a one-out error in the sixth, but he was erased when Johnson hit into a double play.
Regent Prep had five hits off four Wildcat pitchers.
Levi Haueter had a pair of singles for Regent, which also got a double from Grant Martin and singles from Braden Bayless and Harrison Smith.
The Wildcats faced Summit Christian Thursday in the first round of a tournament at Caney Valley.
Action continues through Saturday.
