BARTLESVILLE — Extending an offensive barrage that has resulted in a 10-game winning streak, the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Golden Norsemen cruised past the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Junior Varsity Monday 21-4 and 7-6 at Eagles Field.
With the sweep the Golden Norse are 14-2 on the season while the Eagles are 6-10 on the year.
NEO returns to Homa Thomas Field at 1 p.m. Saturday against Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College. The teams will play four games over the weekend.
The Division II Bears of Council Bluffs, Iowa are 2-5 on the season.
Exploding for 21 runs on 20 hits in five innings of the opener, the Golden Norse tallied seven runs in both the third and fourth innings before adding six runs in the top of the fifth.
Leadoff hitter Joe Fernando produced two doubles and four RBI to lead the Norse offense. Hayden Hall contributed a home run, double and five runs batted in while Chase Burgess added three singles.
Hunter King (1-0) toed the mound for the Golden Norsemen. King allowed three runs in four innings of work. Samuel Walker allowed one run on two hits in one inning of relief.
Troy Gagan generated two home runs and a triple in a game halted after five innings because of weather.
NEO catcher Corey Wilson generated three RBI with a homer and a single while home runs by Calem Nutting and Jared Blackmon also contributed to the Golden Norse scoring.
Pitcher Logan Pitts (1-0) surrendered six runs on six hits in four innings to earn the victory. Matthew Gaskins pitched a scoreless inning to earn his first save.
