CLEVELAND — Afton breezed to the overall title and had 19 lifters qualify for the state meet during the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association Northeast Regional here Saturday.

The Eagles, with six individual winners, rolled up 299 points to easily win the Class A title. The 299 also was tops among the 18 teams entered, including Classes 2A, A, B and C.

Drumright was second in Class A with 109 points.

Fairland was fourth in Class A, sixth overall, with 85 points, and Quapaw was seventh in Class A with 17 points.

Kansas was the 2A winner with 107 points.

Wyandotte was third in 2A with 82 points and Commerce fourth with 48.

Afton’s individual first-place finishers were Kaden Gibson, 123; Kashen Gibson, 132; Gunner Hudson, 168; Briar Julian, 181; Tate Maupin, 242, and Seth Miller, heavyweight.

The Eagles’ other state qualifiers (and their regional placement) were Brett Hollon, fifth, 132; Kyle Corley, fifth, 145; Gabe Mustain, second, 168; Jacob Barton, second 181, and Trenton Gaines, third, 242

Others from the area who qualified were Charles Reed of Fairland, second at 145; Michael Foust of Fairland, second at 157; Brandon Brown and Devan McCloud of Wyandotte, third and fifth, respectively, at 157; Brenden Brown of Fairland, third at 168; Justin Jennings of Quapaw, fifth at 181; Kasey Karnes of Commerce, fourth at 220, and Jake Hailey of Commerce, second at heavyweight.

Mustain had the outstanding deadlift (510 pounds) and Brenden Foust had the outstanding bench press (285 pounds).
