QUAPAW — Striking early, Quapaw chalked up a 7-3 victory over Commerce here Thursday evening.
The Wildcats (2-0) spotted CHS a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but erupted for six runs in their first at-bat.
Quapaw sent 12 men to the plate and did the bulk of the damage with two out.
Austin Thomasson had the key hit, a two-run double while Jonas Gregory and Chris Durbin each drove in runs with singles.
Nick Hemphill picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk and a balk by Damond Kelly allowed Thomasson to score.
The Tigers pushed across a run in the top of the fifth thanks to a three-base error and a balk.
Quapaw got its final run in the sixth.
The Cats made the most of only five hits in the game.
Thomasson doubled while Hemphill, Gregory, Rex Burkybile and Durbin added singles.
D Cunningham had a double and single for Commerce (0-1). Chase Cunningham, Kelly and Bryce Waybright collected a single each.
Gregory fanned 13 and walked one while going the distance to get the victory.
Commerce travels to Bluejacket and Quapaw visits Ketchum Friday.
