WELCH — A six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning helped Welch roll to an 8-1 victory over Wyandotte Thursday in the slow-pitch softball opener for both teams.
The Lady Wildcats scored single runs in the first and second innings, then Wyandotte cut the gap in half with a run in the top of the fifth.
Welch sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth, the key blow a two-run double by Olivia Pitcher. Madison Gilman doubled home a run and Ashlee Morgan drove in a run with a single.
The final run of the inning came when Madisen Horton reached on an error.
Pitcher collected two doubles and Gilman and Madison Schaper each had a double and single.
Horton and Jalynn Giles each added two singles while Morgan, Brennae Perkins, Taylar Costerisan and Olivia Chenoweth each had a single.
Micah Wendelken had a double and single while Maddie Branham and Amber Garrett added two singles each for the Lady Bears.
Lynnea Cox drilled a triple. Getting a single each were Tarrah Stephens, Grace Parmley, Kylie Severs and Jillian Swanger.
Horton was the winner and Garrett suffered the loss.
