COMMERCE —A seventh-inning rally fell short as Commerce dropped an 11-6 decision to Welch here Friday.

The Wildcats broke out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first but CHS chipped away by getting one in its first inning and two more in the second.

Welch pulled away again, getting three runs in the third and fifth before scoring final run in the top of the seventh.

The Tigers got three runs in the bottom of the seventh and left a runner stranded at third when reliever Casey Perry got a strikeout to end the game.

Nolan Schaper had two doubles and a single for Welch. Gunner Johnson added three singles and Chance Perry and Casey Perry added two singles each.

Brace Welch and Seth Hayward chipped in with a single each.

Carlos Pinales had two singles for the Tigers’ only hits.

Each team used four pitchers in the game.

Johnson started for Welch and was followed by Chance Perry, who got the win, Schaper and Casey Perry.

Nading was the Tigers starter. Gray, Waybright and Bachman also threw for CHS.

Welch travels to Regent Prep and Commerce is at Foyil on Tuesday.
