SHIDLER — A 7-6 edge in the fourth quarter helped Bluejacket’s girls hold on for a 42-39 victory over Timberlake Thursday night in a Class B Area II regional here.
The 15th-ranked Lady Chieftains (21-3) face No. 7 Burlington (20-7) in Saturday night’s championship game.
Burlington ground out a 38-36 overtime win over Deer Creek-Lamont in a regional semifinal game at Medford.
The Bluejacket boys dropped a 69-49 decision to Timberlake in the boys’ semifinal.
The Chieftains (12-13) face Deer Creek-Lamont at 3 p.m. Friday. DCLA remained alive with a 41-38 win against Medford in a consolation game at Medford.
A win Saturday night would be the Lady Chieftains’ first since 2001 and their 14th overall.
"I was really proud of the girls," Bluejacket head coach Jason Bates said. "We played pretty well at times. We showed a lot of composure at the end."
The Lady Chieftains saw a 14-7 first-quarter lead turn into a 21-18 margin at halftime.
Bluejacket carried a 35-33 lead into the break.
The win avenged a 67-43 loss to the Lady Tigers in a regional semifinal last year at Stroud.
Tori Anderson had 12 points on four 3-point goals to head up the Lady Chieftain scoring. Sophie Windle joined her in double figures with 11.
Others with points for Bluejacket were Laura Collins with eight, Lydia Pipins with seven and Cameran Bluejacket added five.
Timberlake (12-13) got 12 points from KaLynn LeForce.
Boys: Timberlake 69, Bluejacket 49
An 18-12 edge in the second quarter gave the Tigers the upper hand.
Bluejacket had led 18-17 after the opening frame.
Timberlake used a 17-9 margin in the third to pad its lead to 13 heading into the final stanza.
Ryder Blackfox and Justin Pape had 15 points each for the Chieftains.
Coy McGlasson and Kawlan Rogers added five each, followed by Johnny Estes with four, Jakob Adamson with three and Cooper Decker with two.
Timberlake (18-6) had three players score in double figures: Preston Pierce with 19, Xaylen Stearns with 15 and Camdon Frech with 11.
