OOLOGAH — A 27-point first quarter was too much for the Miami girls to overcome during an 81-32 loss to Oologah here Tuesday night.
“We did not handle their defense very well,” Miami coach Chuck Preaus said. “They are a very athletic team that double-teamed the ball everywhere. It was suffocating.
“We have to respond better to this kind of pressure because we are going to see more of it.”
The Lady Mustangs (9-7) turned a 27-6 first quarter lead into a 47-15 margin by intermission.
Oologah continued to pull away in the second half with 17-10 and 17-7 advantages.
“Our kids felt a little demoralized after such an emotional win, but are anxious and ready to prepare for Friday,” Preaus said.
The Lady Wardogs (2-13) travel to Claremore Sequoyah Friday night.
Tara Linton scored 13 points to lead the way against Oologah.
Tori Lofgren added seven points, followed by Shelby Hubbard with five, Abby Osborn with three and Rebecca Bell and Alexis McKibben with two each.
Three players were in double figures for the Lady Mustangs: Avery Cluck with 14, Lyndi Melton with 12 and Karly Wadsworth with 11.
