AFTON — A 25-12 third-quarter advantage helped the Afton boys chalk up a 68-62 victory over Commerce here Friday night.

That completed a sweep for Afton as the Lady Eagles notched a 53-28 win.

Afton saw a 16-11 first-quarter lead shrink to 24-21 by the half in the boys’ game.

The big third quarter by the Eagles offset a 29-19 rally by CHS over the final eight minutes.

Three players scored in double figures for Afton: Wil Amos with 28, Gunner Hudson with 16 and Gabe Mustain with 15.

Brett Hollon and Briar Julian scored seven and two, respectively.

Hunter Burkybile’s 16 points lead the offense for the Tigers. Stefan Blankenship, Isaac Shelton and Donnie Brown joined him in double figures with 10 each.

Carlos Pinales and Luis Prado tallied seven points each and Terrance Krush added two.

Girls: Afton 53, Commerce 28

The Lady Eagles broke out to a 12-5 lead in the first quarter then pushed it to 32-12 at the break.

Afton continued to pull away in the second half thanks to 17-7 and 14-9 margins.

Afton got scoring from five players and three of those were in double figures.

Carlee Shinn had 22 points, followed by Daylee Osburn and Skylar Hicks added 13 and 12, respectively.

Ragan Hudson had four points and Clarissa Rice chipped in with two.

Morgan Ballard had 14 points for the Lady Tigers, who also got six from Reghan Trease, three each from Josalynn Barr and Gracie Bundy and two from Morgan Connell.

Afton hosts Quapaw and Commerce entertains Foyil Tuesday night.
