VINITA — Four straight wins in the middle weights helped break open a close dual and send Vinita on its way to a 54-24 victory in wrestling action here Tuesday night.

A pin by 145-pounder Tyler Griffith against Vinita’s Zach Wattenburger slashed the Hornets’ lead to 24-18 through seven matches.

Vinita — the No. 6 dual team in 4A and the No. 7 tournament team in 3A — got a pin from Kadin Root against the Dogs’ David Shelton at 152, then the hosts picked up forfeits at 160, 170 and 182 to balloon the score to 48-18.

Keegan McKibben broke the string with a decision over John Floyd at 195 and Callan Cox decisioned JoeDon Hicks at 220.

Trenton Keith of Vinita wrapped up the match with a pin against Raymond Sharp at 285.

Miami hosts its invitational tournament Friday and Saturday at the Miami Activity Center.
