David A. Williams of Grove died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Clarehouse in Tulsa after a lengthy illness. He was 73.
Mr. Williams was born Oct. 30, 1935, in Tulsa to Edgar and Mildred (Bardwell) Williams. He graduated from Grove High School with the class of 1954. He also graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. In 1998, he moved to Grove from Eldorado, Kan.
In 1954, he went to work for the Boeing Airplane Company in Wichita, Kan. In 1970, he went to work as a deputy sheriff for Butler County, Kan. In 1975, he became sheriff of Butler County until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Butler Baptist Church, Kansas Sheriffs’ Association, National Sheriff’s Association and the Grove Masonic Lodge No. 187.
He married Audrey Lee Raymond on April 8, 1955. She preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2005.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Tommy Lee and Stephen Dee Williams; his parents; one brother, Larry Paul Williams, and two sisters, Sunny Whan Turner and Joyce Smith.
Survivors include one son, Randy Williams of Oklahoma City; three daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Eric Kennedy of Collinsville, Tonya Panther of Moore and Vicky and Robert Jones of Barling, Ark.; two brothers and their wives, Roger and Donna Williams of Mesa, Ariz., and Steve and Joyce Williams of Pioneer, Mo., six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Grove gymnasium. The Rev. Jim Hale will officiate. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Braden Feller, Trenton Feller, John Turner, Casey Williams, Jim Raymond and Joe Bushyhead. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeremy Leonard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.
