Wilburn Fredrick “Fred” Schaefer of Kearney, Mo., died Sunday, June 10, 2007, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. He was 64.

Mr. Schaefer was born Aug. 25, 1942, in Miami to Oliver F. and Opal (Schmeling) Schaefer. He was reared in Miami and attended Miami schools. He had lived in Springhill and Overland Park, Kan., before moving to Kearney in 1991.

He was a manufactures sales representative for John Grave Food Service for 17 years, retiring in April, 2007. He was a member of the Lutheran faith.

He married Nancy Branch in 1964 in Fairland. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Kim and Brent Lawrence of Gardner, Kan., and Judy and Jim Shephard of Springhill; two sisters, Drucilla Fugate of Tulsa and Yvonne Burnett of Liberty, Mo.; two stepbrothers, Brad Karnes of Alabama and Vic Karnes of Fulton, Mo.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Miami with the Rev. Don Kirchhoff officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Fairland.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami.
