Sylvia Irene Johnson of Miami died at 11:25 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at Osborne Care & Rehab Center after a long illness. She was 89.
Sylvia was born Aug. 24, 1917, at Southwest City, Missouri to John and Littia (Gambel) Moore. She moved to Miami in the 1940s. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
In 1934 she married Oscar Carl Johnson at Southwest City. He preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1996.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Garry Earl Johnson on March 21, 2001.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Judy Johnson of Miami and her four daughters, Beth Sharp of Langley, Ruth Eads of Miami, Julie Johnson of Sapulpa, and Sherry Scribner of Diamond, Mo.; one daughter, Marlene (Mavis) Powell and her husband Bill of Vinita and their five children, Allen Powell, Marty Powell, Vincent Powell, Ronnie Powell and Jackie Powell; 15 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 28, 2007.
The graveside service is 10 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2007, at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, east of Miami with the Rev. Carol Holden officiating. Pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Robbie White, Jason Sharp, D. J. Howard, Travis Eads and Chris Howard.
The family suggests memorials to the Ottawa County Historical Society in care of the funeral home.
