Elizabeth “Babe” Jane Smith of Commerce died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center of Miami after an illness. She was 86.
Mrs. Smith was born April 6, 1921, in Hockerville to Elmer and Nettie Miller. She lived most of her life in the Commerce area.
She was a leather worker for Don Hume Leather Company. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Commerce where she was a member of the WMU and taught Sunday school. She was a member of La Madre Mother's Study Club and delivered Meals on Wheels.
She was married to Ferman Smith. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Burnittia Turner and Claudia Conley, and several foster brothers and sisters.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Jerry and Dean Smith of Pine Bluff, Ark., Danny and Sherry Smith of Commerce, Wayne and Sara Smith of Grove and Roy and Karen Smith of Moore, 15 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Services were 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Commerce. The Rev. Ed McFall and the Rev. Billy Bissell officiated. Burial was in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.
Pallbearers were her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Reed, A.C. Anderson, Bill Turner, Harley Turner and Phil Crosby.
Arrangements were under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.
