Wiley Armstrong of Picher died Friday, July 25, 2008, at his home after an illness. He was 86.

Mr. Armstrong was born Feb. 1, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., to Deck and Claudia (Cooper) Armstrong.

He was a retired teacher with the Picher School System and a member of the First Baptist Church of Cardin.

He married Wanda Thompson on Sept. 2, 1942, in Checotah, Kan. She survives, of the home.

Mr. Armstrong served in the Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers; a daughter, Janet Barnes, and one grandson, Philip Barnes.

Additional survivors include a son, Kyle Armstrong of Broken Arrow; a brother, Marvin Armstrong of Pittsburg, Kan.; one sister, Corrine Moore of Otis, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Ben Barnes, Adam Barnes, Bucky Barnes, Becky Enloe, Kayla Armstrong, Bret Armstrong and Joel Barnes, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Treece, Kan., with the Rev. Charles Clevenger officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Picher.
